What is Prevent?

Prevent is one part of the government's overall counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST. It is predominantly about stopping a child or young adult becoming racialised. Radicalisation is the process by which a person comes to support terrorism and extremist ideologies associated with terrorist groups.

What are the aims of Prevent?

Prevent aims to tackle the causes of radicalisation and respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism. The programme safeguards and supports those most at risk of radicalisation through early intervention and enables those who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate.

British Values

What are British values?

As part of the Prevent strategy, Peterborough Skills Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its learners, staff, visitors, and partners. One way in which we achieve this is through the promotion of British Values.

These are: democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect & tolerance of others. All of these underpin what it is like to be a British citizen and celebrate the diversity of modern life in the United Kingdom.

Democracy

We promote a culture in which democracy can be exercised through leadership and accountability, joint decision making, team meetings, the right to protest and petition and receiving and giving feedback.

Rule of Law

We respect that the laws of the land apply equally to all. Designed as a deterrent to people who consider doing something illegal.

Individual Liberty

Freedom of choice and right to respectfully express views and beliefs in a safe environment. - The right to believe in what you want without being judged. The right to say what you believe without discrimination.
